Do I need to see my regular dentist before getting cosmetic dentistry?

It has been over 5 years since I’ve seen my dentist and I know that I have several cavities that need to be taken care of. Also, my teeth are crooked and my front tooth has a chip, plus it is gradually deteriating because I use to eat alot of lemons and oranges. Do I need to see my regular dentist before I can get cosmetic dentistry or can a cosmetic dentist take care of my other dental issues at the same time?

Your regular dentist can take care of all the problems you mention, unless you also want braces. Cavities and chips are routine dental matters, braces require an orthodontist. They usually prefer you to have routine dental work done by your regular dentist first. And although some of them will do the other routine work, they tend to charge more for the priveledge. So just start with your regular dentist and go from there.

The lecture presented by Dr. Kenji Tsuchiya was part of the 33rd Annual USC Periodontal & Implant Symposium held in Los Angeles in 2008. Dr. Tsuchiya maintains a private practice focusing on prosthodontics, esthetic dentistry, periodontics and implantology in central Tokyo, Japan. He is the Founder of the Society of Japan Clinical Dentistry and Past-President of the Tokyo branch (1996 to 2004). This prestigious dental society in Japan has over 1,000 members. Dr. Tsuchiya is an active member of the Japanese Academy of Oral Implantology, Japanese Academy of Periodontics, Japanese Academy of Prosthodontics and Japanese Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He has published numerous articles in the fields of esthetic dentistry and implantology. Dr. Tsuchiya has lectured extensively and has been directing a post-graduate course in Japan.

What do you think about laser dentistry?

i have a cavity, but im terrified about going under the drill (and being numb). i’ve only had dental work done once, and i had to use anestesia. I was wondering what you think about laser dentistry. anybody ever had it?
ok, by the way, im more terrified of laughing gas than i am the drill. i just always like to be in control of myself and not be under the influence of drugs, even ones used for medicinal purposes.

Dental work using a laser has only limited use. It can work on small cavities pretty well, but larger cavities probably still need the use of a drill. It’s not the total answer.

Because of your fear, you might consider nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or conscious sedation in order to get your dental work done without pain. Local anesthesia — an injection using Lidocaine usually — works on most procedures, but you may also fear the injection. Conscious sedation doesn’t put you totally to sleep, but you should not feel any pain. It’s usually given in pill form, but many dentists prefer to use an intravenous form (IV sedation) in order to control the amount of anesthetic that is given to you. Call around, or check dentists in the phone book, to see who offers this service. But, do make sure you get to a dentist for treatment.

why do people say that dentistry is easier than pharmacy school?

It seems to me that dentistry is harder since it is 8 years *for years pre and four years professional program) while pharmacy is 2 years pre and four years professional. Meaning that Dentisry has a lot MORE info to study. What do you think?

also how many math credits do you need?

& what does your average in highschool have to be too get into Dentistry in University

Classes you take in college are more important when aiming for dental school (which you usually apply to after a couple of years in college). Some courses in biology, chemistry, and calculus are usually required. You need VERY high scores to even dream of going to dental school.

Rank the schools in order for best dentistry school. Also rank in order of just which schools are the best

University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC)
Northern Illinois University (NIU)
Illinois State University (ISU)

I have a GPA of 4.88 on a 5.00 scale
Is that good enough to get into all of these schools?

NIU and ISU do not have dental schools.
Only two schools in IL have dental schools, and they are UIC and SIUE.

The lecture presented by Dr. Craig M. Misch was part of the 34th Annual USC International Periodontal & Implant Symposium held in Los Angeles in 2009. Dr. Misch received postgraduate certificates in prosthodontics and oral implantology and a Master of Dental Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He then completed specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Pittsburgh. Dr. Misch holds dental faculty appointments at New York University, the University of Florida and the University of Pittsburgh. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and currently practices as a dual specialist in Sarasota Florida. He is on the editorial boards of several professional organizations.

Is there anyone who knows about dentistry course in uneversity?

I want to come and do dentistry in Canada .I have A-level qualification from England.
I don’t have much information about Canadian education system, all I know is that I have to do a foundation degree before doing Dentistry.
