I have been a dental assistant for 12 years and a practice manager for almost 5 so I know a bit on insurances. . . There are so many dental insurance plans out there. One way to go is to choose a plan with in network dentists. That way you are going to get cheaper fees due to their contract with the dental provider and some insurances pay at a higher percentage. With the lower contract fees you can get more work done with your yearly maximum. The downfall is when you can’t find a dental provider in your area in network. Most of the time you can still see them but they will still pay off their allowable fees and you are responsible for the remainder. If you pay a little more you will be much better coverage. Each insurance company also has a ton of plans because they build plans for each individual or each company. I would recommend staying away from discount plans and go with an actual insurance policy.
Dental work is very expensive! If you haven’t been in awhile and need work I would suggest looking into it. If not it may be in your best interest to put out the fees for the exams, x-rays and cleanings twice a year. Happy hunting!
