I had my wisdom teeth all removed last Monday Jan 18 .Today is Sunday Jan 24. I can open my mouth a little but when I try to open it, it hurts a bit. I can only brush the teeth in the front and the front of my tongue. What I can do to clean my breath?? I can’t stand stinky breath anymore!

It’s very easy actually. Do NOT use mouthwash because all that garbage dries out the tissues. Hydrogen peroxide kills only about 30% of the germs and damages the tissues. Toothpaste with fluoride damages the body. Toothpaste with sodium lauryl sulfate opens the pores in the mouth and allows bacteria to get into the tissues.

The very best thing is to do what the ancients did and was very wonderful. It won’t hurt you in anyway and will make your gums healthier, give you great breath and not harm you in any way.

It is called "oil pulling." It’s a primitive way of cleaning the mouth. Get some coconut oil and put a teaspoon of the oil in your mouth and swish it around for 2 minutes. It will mix with saliva and pull all the bacteria, virus, fungus, parasites out. After two minutes, spit it out, don’t swallow it because it contains all the garbage you don’t want in your body.

Then brush your teeth with a toothpaste that does not have fluoride or sodium lauryl sulfate like, Peelu or another brand.

The coconut oil contains Lauric acid that kills bacteria and caprylic and capric acids that kill fungus. Coconuts are used to make these antibacterial and antifungal drugs.

You will be amazed at how well this works for you. It’s simple and cheap. To remove any pain you are having, get some oil of cloves and put that on where it hurts and it will take all the pain away quickly. You can also swish some Scotch Whiskey around the area and it will also take the pain away quickly as well.

What is the chance of a decayed wisdom tooth falling apart during extraction? Should I be awake?

I am 35 years old, and my upper left wisdom tooth is very decayed is broken (pieces are missing.) I am going for a consultation later today with an oral/maxillofacial surgeon. The receptionist said that if I only need to be numb he may be able to extract it today saving me the additional $185 consultation fee. But if I need to be asleep I’ll have to reschedule. I know there is a good chance the tooth could crumble into a million pieces as it is being pulled due to the decay. How likely is that? Also, if there is a good chance of that happening, with then the tooth being taken out piece by piece, should I be awake or have IV sedation? I also keep hearing about the awful noise you hear whem it is extracted while you are awake, and about the painful injections to numb the area. (Injections that can make you gag, I’ve heard. I gag easily.) Also, if it;s infected, do I need to take antibiotics first to get rid of the infection before it is pulled so that that the infection doesn’t spread?

The decision as to whether you need to be asleep is up to you and your dentist. I have seen many, many patients do well under the conditions you are describing.

Yes, a tooth can break apart and can be brittle when an extraction is performed. I have worked with dentists who have easily removed broken reamining pieces with ease. It all depends on the dentist performing the treatment and also depends on how broken down the tooth is.

As for the antibiotic, yes, it is a good idea to have antibiotics prior to any treatment, so the anesthetic will work more effeciently…this also aleviates pressure caused by swelling from infection.

Question regarding the anesthetic…do you gag due to the topical gel placed in the mouth prior to the anesthetic? Or do you gag from opening your mouth? I know sometimes that topical gel can cause gagging with senstive patients. Let your dentist know prior to any treatment being done. This will give them a heads up so you’ll be more comfortable.

will gums recede if a person smokes after oral surgery?

I had oral surgery and had 6 teeth removed. After about 5 days the stiches came out and then my gums started receding very badly up my gum line where you could actualy see where the teeth was in my jaw bone!! Now my dentist thinks that I did something and wont see me for a month till it heals up completely he says! Mean while i,m in pain and cant get help, any suggestions?

If you are in pain he will see you and give you some pain meds.

2 Lower Impacted Wisdom Teeth, Dentist says TAKE OUT ALL 4?

I am 22 y/o male and having the procedure done tomorrow morning! I am dreading tomorrow to say the least, it will be my first surgery.

The X-Ray showed that my lower 2 wisdom are impacted, yet the top 2 have grown out normal. However, my dentist wants me to take out all 4 wisdom tooth!? I called the dentist and his secretary told me to ask him tomorrow since he was busy.

What is the rationale for taking out all 4 wisdom tooth when only 2 are growing out crooked? My dentist just suggesting this so that he can make more money off my insurance? Thanks to all those who reply!

I believe that was the reason my dentish had told me a few months ago; that the top wisdom teeth would keep growing and hit my bottom gums without the presence of the removed lower wisdom teeth.

Do you know how common is this to happen? and how soon after my 2 lower wisdom teeth have been removed? Thanks in advance.
I will be put to sleep, but I think I will still only opt for only having 2 removed tomorrow.

I have read that there is a chance of death from being on general anesthesia. Anyone know whats the chance of that?
Ive never had surgery or taken anesthesia of any kind before.

I am hesistant to have all 4 taken out at the same time as I am concerned with the pain afterwards and I will have a harder time eating since both sides of my mouth will be sore.

i would do all 4 at one time. it’s not that bad, just ask for some laughing gas, u’ll want to stay all day. i don’t even remember what it felt like, no horrible memories. however, i do remember getting my braces removed. no one told me how awful that would be. that was many moons ago. things have probably changed since then. it was all worth it.

I was wondering how most dentists pay off their student loans and are able to still have the quality lives they deserve. Also, how much more do you have to pay back if you decide to specialize (e.g. ortho)? Answers from dentists are highly encouraged.

You have to pay them all back even if you specialize. Most dentist take the maximum amount of time allowed to pay them back because their interest is lower and when first starting out in practice, you do not have a lot of money rolling in.

Do I need to see my regular dentist before getting cosmetic dentistry?

It has been over 5 years since I’ve seen my dentist and I know that I have several cavities that need to be taken care of. Also, my teeth are crooked and my front tooth has a chip, plus it is gradually deteriating because I use to eat alot of lemons and oranges. Do I need to see my regular dentist before I can get cosmetic dentistry or can a cosmetic dentist take care of my other dental issues at the same time?

Your regular dentist can take care of all the problems you mention, unless you also want braces. Cavities and chips are routine dental matters, braces require an orthodontist. They usually prefer you to have routine dental work done by your regular dentist first. And although some of them will do the other routine work, they tend to charge more for the priveledge. So just start with your regular dentist and go from there.

How much money do dental hygienists in Italy make? Is there a need for them? What region do you recommend?

it depends on dental treatment: for example,to clean they take 60 euros or more! a lot of students study to work in this environment so there isn’t really too much work..but i recommend northen italy!
