How did people deal with impacted wisdom teeth in the ancient days?

Cavemen, biblical age people, medieval era people…

What happens when you leave impacted wisdom teeth alone?

Good question. Their jaws were bigger so there was more room for the teeth to come in straight. where a stoday our jaws are alot smaller therefore you see more incidents with impacted wisdom teeth.

  1. I’ve wondered this too. I’ve come to the conclusion that they must have pulled a lot of teeth themselves and drank a lot to ease the pain lol

  2. Back then, it was common for people to just put up with the pain and suffer the dental problems.

Wisdom teeth are just left in to rot.. Before the 20th Century, dentists had to resort to using whiskey to get a patient inebriated before pulling a painful tooth.

Look at George Washington for instance. The poor guy had a lot of tooth decay and periodontitis, and he had constant toothaches throughout his life. It’s a miracle that with all that discomfort he was able to win a war then run a country, and live to his 60s.

All I can say is, OUCH!
