How painful are impacted wisdom teeth?

I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled soon (they are impacted – growing in side ways and the dr wants them out before they come up). How painful is this going to be and how many days should i expect to be out of work (i work retail so i dont think id want to be standing around talking to people 8 hours a day lol)
Cause with mine they have to cut the gums and chisel out the teeth =/. I don’t want to be stupid off pain killers at work either, lol.

I had mine removed Friday, in order to avoid pain take the vicodin or whatever they give you as soon as you can. You need someone to drive you anyway, because the of the anaethesia, have the driver go fill your prescription during the surgery then go straight home, eat some yogurt or (room temperature) soup and take the pain killers, you might be tempted to wait because your whole mouth will be numb and swollen, you’ll be bleeding and you won’t be in pain and it will be hard to feel anything or swallow but if you wait until you fell pain you will be in pain for the hour it takes for the drugs to kick in, and that according to everyone I’ve talked to (i chose not to wait) is the most painful part. As long as you take the powerful pain killers you will be prescribed, and use ice as long as there aren’t any complications (infections, dry socket) you’ll be sore and swollen but not in unbareable pain. Recovery is around 2-4 days, if you have the surgery Thursday or Friday you should be able to return to work Monday, although you’ll probably still be swollen

  1. I just went through this and every ones experience is different but its not that bad. I had all removed at once and 2 were impacted. I requested sedation and didnt feel a thing and was high as a kite for 2 weeks from pain killers then anti-biotics then bam i can eat again. Not that bad. I just hope you like soup :) and pudding :) . Once your able to eat again its just amazing! lol ok later

  2. You will need at least 3-5 days to recover. Your teeth will not be "pulled" they will be extracted…MEANING… surgically removed. You will be put to sleep and when you wake up your cheeks will be puffy from the swelling. They will give you pain meds and an icepack for your face and you will be on your way home. As far as missing work…you need to let them know that you are having a procedure done and will contact them in a few days to advise them of your condition. Some people will get complications…dry-sockets…and that would take additional time to heal. So don’t push yourself too hard until you know you are ready to work again.
