Is it normal for an oral surgeon to remove two lower impacted wisdom teeth with just local anesthesia?

I had four wisdom teeth removed,and the oral surgeon only used local anesthetic(injections) for the procedure. It was definitely the worst experience I have ever had in my 34 years of life,as i could hear,smell,and taste everything going on. I wonder if it is normal to not offer some sort of anti anxiety medicine,especially with such difficult removals.

Many doctors opt only to use local anesthetics. This is due to the fact that medical histories of patients vary widely and some would react badly to anesthetics that cause a patient to be unconscious. You may ask your doctor ahead of time to know what he or she will do and request your personal preference but this sort of issue is most likely a result of a policy in his or her clinic or clinic’s licensing company.

Some oral surgeons do remove wisdom teeth with only a local. Some will choose to put you under so that you are asleep for the entire procedure- but going under has it’s risks, and some oral surgeons see it as being an unnecessary risk to take.

Its not that difficult 4 a oral surgeon to carry out extraction of wisdom tooth,but get one removed at a time,

You must be a softie or young.
I have always had local anesthesia for tooth extractions except once when it didn’t take and the dentist got irritated with me and said he wanted to make sure he had the right size pullers and got me to open my mouth anyway and he pulled it and I nearly passed out from the shock; but I got passed it and stayed away from him for the next 26 years.
He is dead now and I have a new dentist that gases me and novacaines me when he cleans my teeth.
Move on and find a modern one. They are out there and want to hold your hand.
