Is it ok to have oral surgery if your only 2 weeks pregnant?

My wife might be pregnant were not really sure it just could of happened recently. Were waiting for a missed cycle to check but she is scheduled to have oral surgery in a week. They will be putting her under gas and all and probably pain pills after. Is this safe considering the pregnancy is so new? If she is pregnant she will literally be only about 12 days when this happens. Anyone know if this is ok?

You really have to discuss it with your oral surgeon and ob/gyn. Most surgeons won’t do surgery on a pregnant woman unless it’s life-or-death. Oral health is very, very important in pregnancy, though, so it may be needed. It sounds like they aren’t putting your wife under? If that is the case, it is much safer than general anaesthesia. My Dr told me that the biggest risk to an unborn child during a Mom’s surgery is Mom’s reaction to being put under. If her heart rate goes down, then the baby is at risk and there is nothing they can do.
They might also give her antibiotics to prevent infection going from the mouth into the rest of the body. – and there are plenty of antibiotics that are safe for Mom and baby.
As far as pain meds, tylenol – even T3’s have been found to be safe during pregnancy. I had gallbladder surgery at 20 weeks, and was given those and reassured by my Drs that they were fine at any stage. I was also given morphine, phentanyl and gravol, but was told they were safe only because at 20 weeks, the baby was done developing, and just had to grow. They would NOT be safe in the first trimester.
Just make sure your Drs know. They can probably change/adjust meds and procedures if the surgery is necessary. They can also arrange for a blood hCg test to know for sure if she is pregnant a day or two before the procedure.
Good luck!
