Oral surgery?

I’m having oral surgery on Friday and I wanna know if anyone has had this procedure done before. I had to get braces because I have a baby k-9 that never fell out, so I got braces to make room for the adult k-9 to fit. My teeth are moving super fast, so now I have enough room in my mouth for the adult k-9 to fit. The dentist told me that he will pull out the baby k-9 which will be easy because it’s ready to go. He will then expose the baby tooth in the upper part of my mouth by cutting some of the tissue away, and attach a bracket to it, and then pull it into place as time goes on. YES I KNOW it sounds and maybe painful, has anyone had this procedure done, what can I expect, how long did it take for your adult tooth to fit in its place? Please be gentle I have to go into surgery on Friday morning so please don’t scare me more than I already am.

Thanks
I will be totally asleep for the procedure, and hopefully lots of pain meds after. He expects me to be back at work on Monday.
Yikes I don’t want to walk around with no tooth for 6 months :)

Thanks for all the advice!!

I’ve have it done , they gave me the gas and I felt high, felt pressure while they was pulling my tooth but no pain really, about 2 days after I felt pain but took 3 Tylenol and that subdued that, don’t worry, they make it sound worse than it is, it only really hurts when the tooth is infected, plus when they give you the shot and ask you can you still feel it say yes and get 3 more shots so you definitely wont feel a thing, that’s what I always do.

  2. did the Dentist tell you that you would have freezing during the procedure=if not he should and also give you a script for pain killers and antibiotics after the freezing comes out

  3. Don’t worry , I know its hard. I have had many oral procedures done including this one.You are going to have swelling. You will feel terrible, they will give you pain meds. Listen to the oral surgeon. Try to stay out of drafts after the procedure you don’t want to be sick. It doesn’t take long for your teeth to shift into place. about 6 months in my case but everyone is different.

  4. I have had oral surgery, my opnion if you are a nervous patient then go to a dentist who specializes in nervous patients. I didn’t do this, all I had was local anethesis and you don’t feel the procedure, though the needle they use does hurt, to me that was the worst part, the needle. However ask your dentist about taking some kind of pain releiver before, or sometimes they will put you under to do the procedure if you are very nervous, but you must request it and your insurance might not pay for it. Ask them in advance, also my dentist did not want to preform any of the aboved mention things so I went to one who would. Your dentist is not the only dentist out there and he is preforming a service for YOU, do not be afraid to ask him or tell him what you want. I hope this helps and good luck sweetie. In my experience take the pain meds they give you about an hour after procedure(or as soon as you can) that way you don’t feel it as the numbness is wearing off. Also make sure it is a place near your home where you can be home shortly after because the meds make you sleepy. Be sure someone takes you to the dentist and drives you home…honestly if the dentist didn’t tell you all this…you might want to get a new one:) After the procedure you will have to be on liquids for at least 24 hours, and then pain will be your guide as to how soft of food you can eat, personally I was sore for about a week, and ate mushy and liquids. Slim-fast is good to stock up on, also pudding and clear broths…trying to think of anything else, you can IM me:) Good luck.
