Question about health insurance and oral surgery?
I am getting health insurance through my employer but it does not include dental. If I have to get oral surgery, (after being referred by my dentist) could it be covered under my regular medical insurance?(since it is surgery and would not be done by my dentist, but by an oral surgeon) I realize I can find this out from the Insurance company, but I do not have the cards yet and the oral surgery is not certain. I would just like to be prepared before this all comes about.
We have several clients who are oral surgeons. They say insurance companies try to get out of paying oral surgery claims. The medical people say it’s a dental procedure and won’t pay. the dental companies say it’s medical and won’t pay.
I myself paid $5000 for a dental implant, and not even the tooth extraction was covered. Check with your insurance company or your HR Dept for more help. they will know the particulars of your employer’s plan, not people on Yahoo.
most likely.
I had a dental implant (it’s a titanium tooth) and my medical insurance covered because they considered it a "transplant"… thank goodness it wasn’t really like a transplant.

Oral surgery is normally covered under dental insurance, not medical insurance.

It depends on what kind of oral surgery it is. Removing parts due to cancer, is medical. Removing wisdom teeth, is dental. You won’t be able to sneak in wisdom teeth removal as a medical claim.
