How do you lose a tooth without it hurting?

My little brother is 5 and he has a really lose tooth and he wants to get it out without hurting before thanksgiving. He’s never lost a tooth but. How can he pull it out without hurting?

Ask him to chew on Mentos or any Xylitol-based chewable candy. It would loosen the tooth and he won’t even notice it. Distraction, like watching TV while chewing, takes his mind off the tooth. Eventually it will come off with constant motion.

  1. Put peanut butter around the tooth. Tie a thread and then yank it! =)

  2. Tell him to use a Kleenex (tissue) to keep the tooth dry, and just play around with moving the tooth around. It will come out in 10 or 15 minutes.

If he trusts you, ask him to let you feel it. If it is really, really loose, it is only being held in place by a thin thread. Just pull down on the tooth with a quick motion and the tooth will come out and he won’t have any pain.

  4. Have him keep working it back and forth for a couple days with his fingers. If it doesn’t come out by Tuesday, ask your mom to get some Orajel. Dry the area as best you can with a Kleenex and mush some of of Orajel around it as best you can (so it goes down between the tooth and the gums it is attached to. Leave it for 3 minutes biting down on Kleenex to keep the area from getting wet. Then tell him to push it back and forth more extremely to get it out. (If that doesn’t work, then the string thing is ok — though I think it does have potential to hurt a little. Take care.
