How long is it okay to use Motrin for a toothache?

I started having a toothache last Friday. Called the dentist Sat morning and got started on antibiotic. I have been using Motrin since Friday for the pain. Now I need the tooth extracted, but can’t get in to the oral surgeon until the 9th. Is it okay to continue using Motrin to keep the pain away for that long – it will have been 18 days total.

As long as you are taking it as directed and drinking lots of fluid, it should be okay. Try to take it only if you need to though.

  2. Yes actually that is what my dentist recommended. I used another brand but its proven to work so I switched to Motrin and the pain was all better. Using Tylenol extra strength doesn’t even work. So your answer is YES. Motrin will work for you.

  3. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like Motrin can be very hard on your stomach. Always make sure you have food in your stomach first before taking it.

Do not exceed 3g per day– Above that you risk toxicity.

Get to the oral surgeon as soon as you can, and good luck.
