How long after having your wisdom teeth pulled can it take for the sockets to close completely?

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled almost a year ago and the bottom two sockets still don’t feel like they have completely closed. It still feels like there is a small pocket behind my back two teeth. Is this normal?

It takes a while to get used to the space. I was told that the bone shrinks as time goes on thus the reason it feels like a hole.
